Arsene: Half-elf wizard. Runs a small detective agency. Considered Man’s ward/guardian.
Man: Tiefling warlock. A smaller than average pre-teen abandoned at a young age. Met Arsene 3 years pre-Session 1.
Oceanside, town between the ocean (ask for specific name?), Embridon (human kingdom) & Gorun (orc kingdom)
Governor Dorbich’s house: One of the largest buildings in Oceanside.
Oceanside Research Library (ORL): Oksidd’s place of work. Presumably a very old building, but not very large. Mostly filled with archives, and a section on magical artifacts.
Per Governor Dorbich’s request, Player Characters are to investigate Oceanside and its Tree to find the cause of the town’s blight (paraphrased as ‘solving the murder of the city’). Crops & land are diminishing in quality due to unknown circumstances, and The Tree has a large hole in its trunk.
Galdier Daruca (see Greenlighter, ORL, and Third Council): An alleged member of the Third Council, and one of the Daruca Brothers. Creator of the Greenlighter.
Governor Addarich Burgrich Dorbich: Governor of Oceanside. A narcissistic orc w/ a flair for the dramatic. Tends to not notice weird occurrences out of social convention. Hired Arsene and Man to investigate why the town was generally getting worse (see PURPOSE.) Currently has an amethyst necklace given to him by ??? (see Masked Figure).
J’ecuzed: curator to The Tree. Large elf woman.
Lady Angelina Ebbilith: Mostly elf, appears to have high competency in magic. She works with her family as part of the Kingdom’s Embassy. Her mother, grandfather (mom’s side), and his gather were all a part of the Embassy. Used Detect Magic to determine that WeirdAss Bracelet doesn’t work upon instant contact on skin. Canonically has little brothers.
Masked Figure: Identity unknown. Wears a smooth purple mask, has pointy ears. So far has been seen in at least two places by NPCs. Oksidd encountered them in the ORL and Dorbich talked to them just before Arsene arrived for a status report. Has given ‘gifts’ to 3 NPCs. (see Amethyst Artifacts). Asked Dorbich about details of the human-orc war, which got retconned out of the Prime Timeline (see Previous Adventure(s)).
Nitch: seamster/weaver/shopkeeper, knows nothing about magic.
Nubby Dugbertso: orc tavernkeeper at Oceanside. Introduced at the end of Session 4 & is known to be in possession of a necklace with a square amethyst embedded in it.
Oksidd- An elderly copper dragonborn, head librarian of the Oceanside Research Library. Previously in possession of a document written by Galdier Daruca containing a riddle (solved by Arsene and Man). Was given a ring by Masked Figure (see Amethyst Artifacts).
Ryan Blacksmith: main blacksmith of Oceanside. Was at monthly smithing meet (paraphrase) the night The Tree was cut. Recognized the weapon used on The Tree (see The Tree).
Sam: A goblin who speaks Deepspeech. Asked about suspicious activity by Man (concurrent w/ Arsene talking with Dorbich). Bradley’s words- ‘cool guy’
Amethyst Artifacts: As of Session 4, there are 3 known AAs in circulation within Oceanside. The first is in PCs possession (silver ring with square gem, obtained from Oksidd), the second is with Governor Dorbich, and the third is with Nubby (both necklaces w/ square gems). All three seem to be made with the same kind of gem, which gives off enchantment magic. Doesn’t have an instant effect upon contact with skin or wearing it (Man tried on the ring Oksidd received and noticed no immediate effects), implying that they’re cursed objects.
Book Theft: At about the same time The Tree was carved out, a book focusing on the Third Council was stolen from the ORL. This book is all the information Oceanside has on what the Third Council is, and even then, its accuracy is speculated.
Dafbaj’s Relic: The Time Relic that was used in Sessions 1-3. Created by Dafbaj Damantifilo, a dark wizard from ancient times. Information found in 1001 Relics (et al.)
Derbic’s 1001 Relics from Days Past: a book found in the ORL that lists magical artifacts (both real and conjectural). Has an index of artifacts possiblly made by the Third Council.
Greenlighter (also Galdier’s Relic): A magical item created by Galdier Daruca. Indentations similar to this object were found in hacked section of The Tree, along with the ‘G’ cypher symbol indicating that it was both planted & grew within the tree and that the item is actually Galdier’s. Establishes a motive for why The Tree was cut to start with. What this item is or what it does is still unknown to PCs.
Metarelic: Details unknown.
Neurlonic’s Relic: Details unknown.
Previous Adventure(s): I don’t think I actually Need to summarize this but here’s the paraphrase. Sessions 1-3 focused on a time travel based adventure, sending PCs back 100 years in the past. This effectively retcons the majority of human-orc conflict, leading to different historical events in their world than what the PCs generally understand from the old/Prime timeline.
The Tree: the main attraction of Oceanside. An unnaturally large maple tree, and part of PC’s investigation of the town. Currently has a large hole in the trunk (event concurrent with Book Theft) that radiate of restoration magic. Ryan Blacksmith recognized was the tree was carved with a gladius, a human made short sword primarily used for stabbing.
Third Council: According to history, the Third Council is an alleged gathering of powerful, possibly bad, wizards who made a number of decisions and magical artifacts. It is unknown whether this actually happened or not, due to lack of information and the large passage of time between then and now. (bradley’s words- a bunch of big dark wizards maybe got together and made some choices and did a lot of things and made a lot of stuff)
god DAMN this took forever to type up. Leaving this section in case I think of anything later lol
Timrek’s House of Wonders: A store full of fraudulent magic items. Where PCs bought Decanter, Map, and Eriri’s Relic.
The Tree: has a secret underground staircase leading to the Greenlighter. Found via Galdier’s cyphers he left behind.
Timrek d’Gorf: from Sessions 1 and 2 originally, shown to still be alive during Session 5. Now owns a store in Oceanside (see House of Wonders).
Galdier Daruca: left behind and illusory recording of himself in the same room the Greenlighter was found. Described as having gone mad with obsession as he rambled (discussed hiding (?) relics like other wizards did).
Grimlock: a blind humanoid creature with dull gray skin. Has heightened senses of smell and hearing to compensate for lack of sight.
Masked Figure: Appeared & trapped PCs as they were leaving the room with the Greenlighter. Escaped via single-use teleportation scroll.
Nubby Dugbertso: Given one of Neurlonic’s relics at the end of Session 4, turned into Grimlock by the beginning of Session 5. Reverted back to normal state via Man using Mage Hand to remove the necklace.
Robin LeNoir (not mentioned in Player copy of document): Arsene’s little brother, and spy/scout for the LeNoir family. PCs ran into him when they enter Nubby’s tavern. Man saw him writing on a paper before leaving, and stole it. Arsene spotted him again when rescuing Man from climbing too high up The Tree, and a third time while heading to Governor Dorbich’s house to give the final report. Leaves behind Arsene’s LeNoir pin with a note saying ‘Not too late.’
Decanter of Endless Wafer: a container that has an endless amount of very salty crackers.
Greenlighter: artifact created by Galdier Daruca, & was previously planted/lodged within The Tree. Known to heal/magically improve the surrounding land of Oceanside. Hidden in The Tree’s underground section.
Eriri’s Relic: A topaz artifact that gives off a strong aura of restoration magic. Theoretically connected to the Third Council, but no historians of the subject recognize the relic (found in 1001 Relics et al.)
Neurlonic’s Relic (pervious info concurrent/same as Amethyst Artifacts): jewelry with amethyst stones. Now known to enchant/transmutate the wearer into a Grimlock.
Mythical Deities: found as statues inside one of The Tree’s underground rooms. In order of puzzle solution (color): Cericsh, Balagsh, Derinsch, Anash, Egretsh, and Forzolsh)
